Why Motherhood and Birth photography you ask?

Many reasons…. Ultimately I want to capture detailed emotion and beauty that birth and motherhood harbor. I do it because birth is a passion of mine and every delivery is unique.. from positions of labor… hands and knees or lithotomy? Location… birthing tub or yoga pants (true story). Vaginal or Cesarean… All of these details make up a unique story of how your precious one entered earth.

In my husband, I know true love. In my children I know pure love.

Thanks for stopping by!

I’M A WIFE, MOM, BIRTHWORKER AND MOTHERHOOD PHOTOGRAPHER.

I’m Jess, I hear you and I totally get you… my passion in life is to care for strong women just like you! I am certified birth photographer in the Denver, Colorado area.

My background as a certified Labor and Delivery Nurse offers knowledge and support during pregnancy, birthing process and post partum period. I always knew pregnancy and birth was a part of my purpose in life and photography was a outlet to explore that small creative side of my brain.

Growing up in a more southern conservative household, our “privates” were to be covered at all times, I never heard my mother fart, church every Sunday and absolutely no sex before marriage…. needless to say there was a lot of disappointment. (sorry Mom)

I married my high school sweetie and built a life full of love, laughter and loyalty. We are far from perfect but put our family at the front of every decision we make.

Mom life, exhausting and far from perfect but wine and good grub will always be there for me.

If I were to sum up my first labor and delivery experience in one sentence it would be: 21 year old party girl knocked up by her high school sweetie, had no clue she had to deliver a placenta.

“Ignorence is bliss" or “young and dumb” ? Scary right?

It was an emotional birth, 45 minutes of pushing felt like a lifetime of constipation, even with my epidural. The relief of him exiting my body and falling in love in that moment was powerful. I got 1 picture right before I delivered.

We named him Caleb. He is probably the coolest 13 year old ever… he brushes my hair and is the best snuggle bug.

My child birthing pelvis delivered a healthy 8lb 9oz kid vaginally, resulting in a non-consented episiotomy and third degree laceration but… he paved the way…. my second baby’s delivery will be a breeze.

So I thought… I knew our little feisty girl was going to be problematic as soon as she implanted her placenta right on top of my cervix. I was diagnosed with placenta previa that never resolved resulting in a week on bedrest and a stat cesarean section at exactly 36 weeks due to severe vaginal bleeding.

If I were to sum up my second labor and delivery experience in one sentence it would be:

Never trust Dad with the camera phone at 5:30 in the morning in the operating room.

I only got 1 picture from that morning meeting my baby girl. We named her Isabelle. Caleb was twilight obsessed at the time and he named her after Bellaaaaaa. She is outspoken, goofy and very opinionated. Has no interest in sharing but loves to create art, dance and do her gymnastics.

We don’t get many surprises in life. Finding out I was pregnant with baby 3 the week my husband was scheduled to have his vasectomy was one of them. Tie Breaker and a gender surprise delivery.

Working as a labor and delivery nurse, I knew the good bad and ugly of VBAC deliveries. I obsessed over my birth plan. Ultimately I felt powerful over my plan of care and confident that I was capable to advocate for myself. I had a close friend and coworker take pictures of my whole delivery. I cherish every picture and memory that was captured.. I often find myself fanaticizing over having another baby….

then all I hear is… “MOM, IM HUNGRY, WHATS FOR DINNER”

If I were to sum up my third and final labor and delivery experience in one sentence it would be:

“knowledge is power and it gives you the strength to self advocate with confidence.”

It’s a BOY, we named him Carter Nelson after my father who passed when I was 7. He has an extreme cowlick and sleeps with 20 of his toys each night. He made our family complete. Brandon finally got his vasectomy…

I have attended around 1,000 births and supported women in labor for 5 years. My favorite deliveries are calm and rhythmic like the ocean waves at sunset. A nice scent of citrus blend aromatherapy in the air with soft romantic music playing in the background. Partners slow dancing while Mom is supported by Dad’s gentle touch. Words of affirmations mumbled during each contraction. Water therapy is a huge pain relieving tool after baby drops further into the pelvis. Alleviating pressure by decreasing gravity as the warm water surrounds them. With the proper support and encouragement, you can achieve your birth desires… whatever YOU decide they are.

I support you and would love the privilege to capture sweet memories through photography. I also hope that I can provide you knowledge to feel confident in the birth space.
